By the start of the new Millennium the United Kingdom´s National Lottery will have raised £9 billion for what are loosely described as "good causes". Among these are hundreds of building and environmental projects, from the very large to the very small. This exhibition, produced by British Council, selects a dozen of these schemes. The Swedish Museum of Architecture has added Ralph Erskine´s project Greenwich Millennium Village outside London. Texts in English.

Alvar Aalto em sete edifícios is a commemorative exhibition of the centenary birth of the Finnish architect, Alvar Aalto, one of the masters of modern architecture. The architectonic works of Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) distinguish themselves because of their great formal richness, in which he combines the values of modernism with historic, cultural and geographic traditions, decisively contributing to the concept of organic architecture. The frequent use of different construction materials like wood, bricks and glass or the use of lights in buildings, serve as the basis of his works. As well as being an architect, Alvar Aalto was also a renowned designer, creating pieces of furniture and everyday use objects.

The exhibition explores one of the most remarkable architect/client relationships in the history of American architecture. This relationship, based on a belief in the power of design to transform the lives of those it touched, was shared by Pittsburgh department store owner and civic leader Edgar J. Kaufmann, Sr., and Frank Lloyd Wright. Together, they produced Fallingwater, one of the icons of twentieth-century architecture. Kaufmann and his son, Edgar Kaufmann, jr. subsequently commissioned more than a dozen other projects from Wright, including several of his most visionary designs. All these projects will be presented in the exhibition using original drawings, many being shown for the first time.
Merchant Prince and Master Builder: Edgar J. Kaufmann and Frank Lloyd Wright was organized by the Carnegie Museum of Art's Heinz Architectural Center in cooperation with The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, Scottsdale, Arizona. Support for the exhibition has been provided by the Henry Luce Foundation. Additional support has been provided by Kaufmann's, A Division of the May Department Stores Company, and The Alexander C. and Tillie S. Speyer Foundation. The programs of the Heinz Architectural Center are made possible by the generous support of the Drue Heinz Trust.

Stay Cool! will be the first major exhibition to explore the transformative power of air conditioning. A defining technology of the twentieth century, air conditioning spurred the invention of totally new forms of architecture and interior design, altering the way Americans live, work, and play. From glass skyscrapers, enclosed shopping malls, and tract homes to Disneyland’s themed indoor rides, high-tech manufacturing clean rooms, and pressurized modules for space exploration, many of the nation’s modern structures would not exist without the invention of "man-made weather." The technology of "engineered air" has changed our relationship with nature itself by creating indoor artificial climates, shifting seasonal patterns of work and play, and making America’s geographic differences environmentally insignificant.

Paris, May 1968 was the culmination of several years during which architecture and space were at the heart of radical theory and political protest. This critically-acclaimed exhibition explores the build-up and explosion of the protest through the eyes of the Utopie group, whose members included Jean Baudrillard and Hubert Tonka. They regarded Modernism as at best boring, at worst an architecture of control. What better way to protest against its bourgeois culture, and architectural equivalents such as the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, than to design buildings and furniture filled with hot air? Like Archigram in the UK, Coop Himmelblau in Austria and new Italian designers such as Gaetano Pesce and Superstudio, Utopie fused the mass production of consumer society with subversive political comment. France would never be the same again. The Inflatable Moment is curated by Marc Dessauce and organised by the Architectural League of New York. Funding for the organisation of the exhibition was provided by the New York State Council on the Arts, Etant Donnes, the French-American Fund for Contemporary Art; the Lily Auchincloss Foundation and others.

Britain is the country of pragmatism, of fair play and even-handed politics. It was, after all, a country in which few bricks were thrown during May 1968. Yet not all has been quiet. RIBA Architecture Gallery traces the path of radical politics, practice and form in British architecture since 1945. From the birth of the Welfare State to the supremacy of the free market, and from the tactics of the Smithsons and Team 10 to the radical practice of Muf, Britain has seen many highly-influential attempts to bridge the gap between the users of, and the creators and controllers of, architectural space.

Steven Brower's objects are architectural sculptures following laws of their own. They claim to be independent while they occasionally use the infrastructure found at the exhibition venue just the same, imitating it in a miniature version and frequently reducing the original to absurdity by targeted changes and deviations. Thus, Steven Brower's objects create a new entity incorporating the exhibition space as a significant criterion of artistic intervention as they directly refer to it. Steven Brower, born in 1969, lives and works in New York City.

The exhibition highlights the work of the office Morphosis, the driving force behind which is the architect Thom Mayne. On display will be more than 60 impressive models, 120 original drawings, and many computer presentations. Specially for the Main Room, Thom Mayne has designed an installation which, like that by Daniel Libeskind in 1997, will take up the entire Main Room (around 1000m2 and 9 metes high). Part of the installation is a moveable element with a structure and screens made of aluminium. Over a period of one hour this will transform the whole space. From a plateau visitors will be able to experience the changing space and watch the
