"Objects are not still. And yet design is often considered in terms of static aesthetic and functional qualities, without much consideration of trajectory in time or relationships with people. The objects presented in Action! Design over Time reveal the often overlooked dimension of temporality, providing a deeper understanding of contemporary design. Some of these objects embody frozen moments in time, whether crafted by hand (like Ingo Maurer’s Porca Miseria! chandelier, which is made of broken dishes) or crystallized by a computer using a digital manufacturing machine (as with Ammar Eloueini’s CoReFab chair). Instead of a single moment, other featured objects capture entire lifecycles; Christien Meindertsma’s book PIG 05049 tracks all 185 products made from a single pig. Some examples focus on communication and interaction design, whose nature is inherently connected to time. These interfaces and visualizations interpret and render data over time—commercial air traffic across the United States, taxi traffic in San Francisco, or the editorial evolution of Wikipedia entries, for instance—in an elegant and efficient way.

"The exhibition Otto Neurath. Gypsy Urbanism is dedicated to the work of the Viennese philosopher and economist Otto Neurath (1882–1945). In an age in which culture is dominated by the mass media, a look at the oeuvre of the polyhistor Neurath reveals aspects which are surprisingly contemporary. This scientist, housing activist and museum director, who constantly worked for the advancement and further development of participative forms of democracy, worked together with leading architects, designers and artists of his day."

"This exhibition showcases a range of design and architecture projects that explore the most important issues associated with sustainability. Celebrated through a selection of pioneering and forward thinking design approaches, this exhibition places sustainable design centre stage, focusing on how design can lead the way and make a positive contribution towards a more sustainable future. Curated under five themes: Cities, Energy and Economies, Food, Materiality and the Creative Citizen, this exhibition will explore projects that are either in the market place or in development, including the Masdar Development hailed to be the world’s first carbon neutral city in Abu Dhabi designed by Fosters + Partners. Fashion designer Christopher Raeburn and his Digital Rainbow Collection which reuses Ministry of Defense parachute materials will be displayed alongside projects that have not yet been seen by a wider audience, including the Energy AWARE Clock designed by the Interactive Institute in Stockholm that monitors the energy consumption in a domestic household, Local River by Mathieu Lehanneur, a concept for a domestic ‘refrigerator-aquarium’ that breeds freshwater fish and grows herbs at the same time, and Yves Bèhar’s FUSE project for sportslifestyle brand PUMA which is set to revolutionise their packaging and distribution system." Visitors will be encouraged to look at their own consumption habits and recognise the individual role they can play in embracing sustainability. The website CanDesignMakeaDifference.com will also enable visitors to engage with sustainable issues and share their opinions on sustainability."

L'ingénieur italien, architecte et constructeur Luigi Nervi (1891-1979) est l'un des plus grands architectes structurel du 20ème siècle. Nikolaus Pevsner le décrit en tant qu' «le plus brillant artiste en béton armé de notre temps ». Ses chefs d'oeuvre sont dispersés à travers le monde. Une importante partie de son œuvre se trouve en Amérique du Nord (St. Mary Cathedral à San Francisco, George Washington Bus Terminal à New York et Square-Victoria Tower à Montréal, pour n'en citer que quelques uns). L'exposition Pier Luigi Nervi, l'architecture comme défi est un projet complet, explorant le travail d'un des maîtres les plus prolifiques et versatiles de l'architecture du 20ème de siècle. Le projet examine la carrière de grande envergure de l'ingénieur du début des années '20 jusqu'aux années 1970. Sont présentés, le déploiement international des bâtiments de Nervi ainsi que ses recherches pionnières concernant les matériaux et technologies de construction, ses structures remarquables et ses constructions publiques..

L’esposizione si propone di esaminare alcune opere progettate dopo il 1910, di far conoscere disegni e documenti, alcuni per la prima volta esposti in Italia, e di analizzare l’influenza che il soggiorno fiesolano ha prodotto sulle architetture di Wright. La mostra raccoglierà, fra gli altri, i disegni che Wright realizzò durante il suo soggiorno fiesolano - ospite del villino Belvedere in via Verdi - per una casa, sempre a Fiesole, però mai costruita. I progetti esposti, attualmente conservati alla Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation di Scottsdale (Arizona) e alla University of Utah Library, vengono eccezionalmente mostrati a Fiesole insieme ad alcuni disegni della villa di Taliesin, residenza definitiva dell’architetto statunitense e attualmente sede della Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
Infatti, proprio prendendo spunto dal villino Belvedere, Wright progettò e realizzò la residenza di Taliesin. L’edificio sorge, appunto, in posizione collinare dominante, dove l’architettura si adatta alla conformazione del terreno e viceversa.

EXPERIENCE… FINLAND è il programma che, attraverso la mostra Architettura contemporanea in Finlandia e la conferenza Visioni nordiche (1 luglio, ore 17, presso l' Aula Magna del Rettorato dell'Università degli Studi di Firenze, piazza San Marco 4), racconta il nuovo scenario progettuale che si sta realizzando in Finlandia, paese erede di una tradizione culturale che ha sempre posto l’uomo e le sue esigenze al centro dello spazio costruito e il pensiero sociale all’inizio del processo progettuale. L’evento, promosso dall’Ambasciata di Finlandia in Italia insieme alla Fondazione Centro Studi e Ricerche Professione Architetto e prodotto da ATL - Association of Finnish Achitects’ Offices di Helsinki, presenta un modo di fare architettura indipendente dai più comuni esercizi stilistici padroni, con ritmi sempre più incalzanti, dello scenario urbano e architettonico internazionale. L’architettura finlandese non mira allo stupore, non abbraccia la cultura dell’immagine o le logiche del marketing; piuttosto persegue l’equilibrio, la misura, l’armonia con l’ambiente e con le esigenze dei suoi fruitori. L’edilizia residenziale costituisce un chiaro esempio: le abitazioni sono moderne, sobrie, accoglienti, realizzate spesso con materiali tradizionali, il legno su tutti, circondate dalla
natura con la quale l’architettura si pone costantemente in relazione. Sono abitazioni che colorano l’immaginario poetico della casa, rielaborandolo in chiave contemporanea. Inaugurazione 1 luglio ore 19.
